Egg Harbor, New Jersey is a quiet Atlantic County township that also features an incorporated city of the same name. Egg Harbor is fifteen minutes away from the bright lights and towering tables of Atlantic City and the Atlantic City International Airport. The City of Egg Harbor was planned following the American Civil War by a group of German investors from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Egg Harbor was named in honor of the community of gull eggs discovered in town during the days of early settlement. When Dutch Captain Cornelius Jacobsen Mey and his floated onto the New Jersey Coast from New York City, he and his men were amazed at the great number of eggs piled on the banks. And thus came the name "Eyren Haven," loosely translated at "The Harbor of Eggs" in Dutch.
For all it's subtle grandeur, Egg Harbor encompasses the makings of a highly-sought after resort community; including boating, fishing, hiking, camping, and beaches with some of the cleanest aqua in the United States. The Harbor of Eggs sports a number of attractive Atlantic County entertainment options for in nearby Atlantic City, Seaside Heights, and other neighboring cities, like Ocean City, New Jersey, sprinkled beside the crushing waves of the New Jersey Shore.
