Centrally located between Glacier and Yellowstone National Park, Helena sits in the foothills of the Montana Rockies just twenty minutes from the Missouri River and the Canyon Ferry Reservoir where visitors and locals alike can enjoy plenty of outdoor recreational activities like boating, fishing, biking, snowboarding, and skiing. A haven for artists, the area now features galleries and restaurants in a area that was formerly dominated by mining-era saloons and houses of ill repute along with an alarming number of robberies and murders. Then, beginning on October 3, 1935, the area was rocked by more than two thousand tremors, causing millions of dollars in damage. The city now offers a variety of outings centered on outdoor activities as well as the Helena City Tour and the Gates of the Mountains boat tour. Other places of interest include the Holter Museum of Art and the Great Northern Carousel, a great place to take the kids.
