Watch the notice boards and shop windows in the village centre as most week-ends you?ll find there?s musical or theatrical entertainment going on at a local venue. At New Year Allendale is noted for its Tar Barrel celebration.There are wonderful walks right on the doorstep as well as horse riding and golf just a few miles up the valley. Keen fishermen can enjoy fishing at Langley, just four miles away. The nearby market town of Hexham (voted ''England''s Best Market Town''), just 10 miles away, has excellent leisure facilities including sports centre, swimming pool and cinema as well as a good range of shops and restaurants. From here there are good transport links by bus or train to Newcastle or Carlisle with a special Hadrian?s Wall bus in the holiday season.
