Nebraska’s largest city, Omaha was founded to outfit people traveling along the Oregon and Mormon trails and later became the eastern terminus for the first transcontinental railroad. Among the city’s claim to fame is one of the nation’s most unique zoos with indoor habitats, a wildlife park that people can drive through, a U.S. military aircraft, spacecraft, and missile museum, and Boy’s Town, which was made famous by the 1938 Hollywood film staring Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney. Omaha’s riverfront has also enjoyed a renewal with newly created parks and footpaths that link it to the Old Market district, a former warehouse area that stretches out for twelve blocks and is filled with new shops and restaurants.

It features indoor habitats like the Hubbard Gorilla Valley where gorillas roam free and visitors are confined to indoor passageways; the Lied Jungle, the world’s largest indoor rainforest with exotic animals like tapirs and monkeys; the Desert Dome that features changing vistas of desert animals and plants that culminates in an underground exploration of caves filled with bats and other nocturnal habitats, an indoor swamp teaming with alligators and other creatures of the night, and so much more. « piilota

Strategic Air & Space Museum Strategic Air & Space Museum features displays of over forty military aircraft, spacecraft, and missiles in two hangars including rescue helicopters, bombers, jet fighters, and troop and cargo transporters like the SR-71 Blackbird, the B-52 and B25, as well as Apollo 9, which was launched in 1966 and sent on one of the moon trips. « piilota

Fun-Plex A cool way for people to spend the day is by visiting the Fun-Plex, a small waterpark that reminds its visitors of the old country fairs with some old-fashioned thrill rides like go-carts and bumper cars along with the water slides, wave pool, and other pools. Omaha Children's Museum Omaha Children's Museum is a great place to take the kids with a make-believe town that features a post office, farm, grocery store, and other areas where children can pretend they are in charge as well as a colorful toddler’s room, a science and technology center with hands-on activities, and a creative center where kids can stage puppet shows, play musical instruments, and create art. 7.	Summer Arts Festival Omaha has a Summer Arts Festival annually that simply takes over the downtown area of the city for three days. Over one hundred artists attend providing art, music, and fun. Live music is featured all day. It is a great place to purchase artistic pieces like ceramics, paintings, sculptures and other crafty things. These corn piles act like quicksand and can pull a person down deep inside of it and suffocate them. The weather in Omaha can be crazy and changeable. Sudden summer storms can blow in rather quickly with high winds that are strong enough to cause property damage. If this happens, it is best to seek shelter immediately until the storm dies down. Also starting in the spring be sure to keep an ear tuned for tornado warnings. During wintertime, do not be surprised if a sunny day suddenly turns to rain, hail, snow, and ice in short order. And be aware of possible ground blizzards that can come out of nowhere during a sunny day with the wind blowing the snow on the ground causing white-outs, drifts, and hazardous driving conditions. « piilota
