Rapid City is a great place to visit for outdoor enthusiasts, for motorcycle fanatics stopping by on their way to Sturgis and for tourists heading to or from Mount Rushmore a few miles away. In addition to many fine restaurants, stores and lodgings, downtown Rapid City is quaint and traditional with many well-maintained historical buildings, and with the new presidential walk, a project that erects presidential statues on downtown street corners each year, tourists and locals alike have a good time exploring the sights and saying high to Thomas Jefferson or a smiling Jimmy Carter.
