A Mezza Costa B&B is located just outside the village of San Casciano Val di Pesa, 12 km south-west of Florence, along the down-hill stretch of the old Via Romana, which used to connect Florence to Siena, and hence to Rome. The road was in recent times renamed Via Borromeo, when the new Cassia was paved to absorb all communication between the two cities, but witness to ancient travel along the gravel, the old name plate of the road still resists on the facade of the house! Halfway the very steep hillside country road, where the slope softens slightly, as clinging on the back of the hill itself, A Mezza Costa B&B offers a marvel gateway to the Chianti region and all of Tuscany, the major tourist sites, as well as the minor, yet authentic little villages scattered around the rounded hilltops with their sharp church steeples, and protecting cypress trees.
