The Indiana town of South Bend is known mostly for The University of Notre Dame which resides within the town's borders, and for all football fans South Bend is the place to be come fall. Notre Dame Stadium is one of the most visited university landmarks in the country, and the stadium's parking lot houses one of the largest tailgating traditions around. The university and the town have long, exciting, romantic histories; many locals will gladly fill you in on a few stories from the histories if you have the time and inclination. The town offers a look at the area's distinctive neighborhoods, and a bit outside of the town you can ride the whitewater rapids of South Bend's East Race Waterway. In and around the town there are many other attractions as well as many quality dining and recreational experiences.
