Risby Cove is Strahan’s only true waterfront accommodation, set historically in a peaceful cove that once was a commercial maritime centre. This haven in the wilderness allows the guest to watch the spectacular sunsets, explore the nearby rainforest and its only a short walk to the cruise boats and rail terminal.
Taking inspiration from its origin, the style is rustic, yet modern, with ironclad exteriors and well appointed interiors offering every comfort. Every guest room overlooks the private marina, as does the restaurant that serves contemporary cuisine. In the distance, a pier where crayfishing boats berth is surrounded with fascinating shipwrecks.
The spa rooms a perfect for couples wanting a romantic waterfront escape and the two bedroom family rooms have plenty of space (with large rooms in particular) and balconies to watch the waterfront maritime activity.
There is an interesting art gallery (once an old sawmill) offering an eclectic collection of work by Tasmanian artists, including sensuous woodwork that showcases some of the textural local timbers, including the rare Huon pine. Other activities on-site include hire bikes, dinghies and a theatrette.
