Mercure Montevideo Punta Carretas

Overall a good place. You pay for what you get

Kayak offered a great rate at the Mercure. This hotel is on the waterfront, but you will have to pay up for a room with a beach view. The breakfast hours are ample and numerous. The rooms are small, but clean and efficient.

The public areas outside of the lobby have a motion sensor. So if you take more than 5 seconds trying to work a poor room card, you will find yourself in the dark taking twice the time to motion the light back on. The morning receptionist can be surly with a bit of Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. A cab ride is required for top rated TripAdvisor restaurants, but a safe neighborhood often triumphs most things.
