CASCO viejo is the place to be. The balcony was our fav :)
The location was great-right in the middle of the city's night life. Walking distance to lots of restaurants, bars, and general stores. Rooftop bar had great cocktails and good food. The room we stayed in our second night was beautiful and had a balcony facing the brewpub next door. It was noisy, but this didn't bother us. We paid a little extra and booked a room with a balcony and "garden view" as my boyfriend is a smoker. This "balcony" was indoor and overlooked a main floor "garden" IN the lobby. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, who were helpful, we were offered an upgraded room for the next night after some persistence on our part. However, friends of ours who had made the same booking and only stayed one night were only offered a bottle of wine and no discount on their stay. The first room we stayed in was very small, and had clearly just finished renovation. Most of the outlets in the room did not work. There were no windows (other than one in the shower that faced the hallway of the hotel). There was an unfinished rock wall that shed orange dust all over the room. And the bathroom "door" was a sheer curtain. The upside of this room - it was quiet. The upgraded room was nice - but only had 1 full towel. We requested more early in the afternoon, and had to make 3 trips to reception until one was sent up that evening (I guess their order was late?) The pool was "closed for renovation" both nights we stayed. But this pool wasn't really desirable anyway, right in the middle of the rooftop bar.
Staff was terrific, especially Anna. Location is on the outer edge of the old city. View is amazing! There is a roof deck that is terrific. We weren't told of the roof deck and would have enjoyed earlier had we known.
Very convenient to the old town No Wifi for entire stay. Security guard banging on our door and shouting at 1:30 in the morning trying to find a new guests room. Pictures do not look like the room we had.
