The toilet emitted a terrible sewage odour from the moment we stepped in. It took three calls to the front desk and a personal trip downstairs for a maintenance staff member to come up (over an hour later). The middle aged male receptionist who called to remind the maintenance staff about the issue seemed rather impatient with me and explained that maintenance had been busy with other rooms. We would have been understanding about the wait if the wait time had been properly communicated, but it was not and we ended up waiting for over an hour for this issue to be dealt with when we needed to take a shower and go out for the day. The maintenance staff member did not question us about the issue and immediately set up a ladder to screw and unscrew something in the bathroom ceiling’s ventilator, suggesting that he was accustomed to dealing with toilet odours. We went out and upon coming back to the hotel several hours later, the sewage smell was even worse. It pervaded the entire room and made the stay unpleasant. The only positive thing to come out of this was a very apologetic female receptionist who gave us a free breakfast the next morning.
