Golden Tulip Porto Gaia Hotel & Spa

The location near the beach is nice but if you want to stay here to visit Porto, it’s 1.5 hours on foot or 20 Minutes by taxi. Breakfast is ok but simple. Rooms had a fantastic view on the ocean.

Airconditioning was not working and the lavatory was clogged. We mentioned it to the staff but they didn’t do anything to fix it. The spa is old and not well maintained just like the outside of the hotel. Also don’t forget to bring a swimming cap otherwise you’re not allowed to swim.

Location is great, staff are kind and friendly but look exhausted and frustrated with condition of hotel. Views from the suite - through the filthy window - were great.

Bathroom: 1) Toilet broken and would not flush properly and also continued running water after use. 2) Missing paintwork and sealant around the bath and between bathroom and toilet 3) Electric light socket above broken and unsafe 4) Metal bin rusty and very old Bedroom: 1) All windows very dirty and not cleaned for many years 2) Missing paintwork and mold on on the walls 3) One set of bedside lights didn't work 4) One of the two side-chairs broken had a broken leg and couldn't be used 5) No tea/coffee making facilities of any kind!! 6) Empty fridge/minibar 7) Very dirty ice box in fridge 8) No working safe deposit box 9) Air Conditioning not working at all 10) The corner-sofa area was very dirty and included a broken curtain 11) The balcony was dirty and unclean 12) TV totally fuzzy and could pick up no images Spa: Completely broken during our stay - the swimming pool was colder than the jacuzzi (also broken). The sauna and steam room (both in male and female changing rooms) were broken, and extraordinarily dirty. Great staff at reception and restaurant! Mr. Oliveira was amazing, simply great!!! As a hotelier and Director of Operations with over 20 years of experience, I must say there are very few professionals like him around! Thank you very much for the great service!!!

Hotel needs renovation. Carpets and walls are dirty. Cleanliness was an issue, floor in the room was not properly cleaned. Shower was with fungus on the wall tiles and silicon. Sauna was a disaster. Amenities not replaced daily. The hotel is definitely understaffed.
