Good location close to shops, good food, airport van across from VN Airline office, and adjacent to the Big Church.
The location is perfect in a small narrow street lined with trees, little cafes and a great brewery next door. The staff is very helpful and I found the airport pickup and drop off very helpful and stress free. just so you know, the rooms with balconies are nicer, though on the street and might be a little loud. The ones in the back and dark and quiet.
I was unpacked and ready to go to bed when I was asked to change rooms because of a mix-up. The room I ended up with had a window onto a wall, which was rather ok because I only wanted to sleep but it wasn't a great arrival. I came home one day to find a fan blasting in my room, because it turns out it smells horribly after I showered, pipes backing up or unclean or something. They offer you two teeeeeeeeny tiny of bottles a day. Why not one big normal one to save on plastic? The breakfast is disappointing - hanoi has the best, cheapest food! go out and eat what vietnamese eat! There are tons of tiny stools on the side street and delicious coffee everywhere, because at the hotel you are offered drip coffee, white bread and eggs, or pancakes. pretty limited choices for those who maybe want to assimilate, or not eat eggs every day. Why not offer what locals eat? I'm sure even just a noodle soup would be delicious and much more interesting to eat every day!
I think overall, Iris was fine. We had just come from a cruise of the Bay and prior to that, stayed at a wonderful hotel that I absolutely loved. So to go from that to Iris... I feel like skews my rating a little bit. It was a quaint little room with all the necessary amenities. Breakfast was good. It was made to serve that morning which was great but make sure to leave enough time for that if you're planning on breakfast in the morning. Signs around did say to make sure we locked our balcony door and room door (which we would've anyway) but the amount of signage that warned against burglary made me question a little bit of the location in which we were staying. Overall though, I enjoyed it. But I would probably stay elsewhere next time.
I wished they served more local foods for breakfast as an option as well. Breakfast was more Americanized - pancakes, crepes, french toast, omelettes. The heater for the water also took a little bit of time to heat up and when in the shower, the hot water didn't last for very long.
- Location - Friendly staff and English speaking - Breakfast - Taxi from airport to hotel
- Very loud ticking sound (we think a laundry washing or drying machine) from 4 am during our second night there that kept us from sleeping... - Shower with limited amount of hot water (not possible for 2 persons to shower directly after each other for about 10 min each, then you’d get cold water only) - even though there was a glass cabin around the shower there was still a lot of water outside the cabin after showering - a lot of holes in the ceiling of the bathroom
Located behind St. Joseph Cathedral, the hotel has a great location as that part of Hanoi old quarter was our favorite. Many restaurants, shops, grocery, ATM machines all around. The room we had was spacious with 2 comfy king size beds. It feels very cozy with a nice selection of basic furniture but looks very tasteful with plenty of lighting devices. The window was facing a wall but they covered that with small wall-mounted planters which I thought is very smart and enhanced the overall look and feeling of the space. Unfortunately we didn't get a balcony but maybe was better because it was very peaceful at night. The AC is only for cooling while they offer an electric heater in the room which was good enough during our stay in January. Bathroom is very clean, modern with a glass shower. Breakfast was great, like most hotels of the same range they offer a choice of eggs or pancakes, but they also offer cereal, milk, yogurt, jam, butter and toast. They also have a lift and safety box in rooms. Long story short, we loved everything about this place. highly recommended.
