Easy!

Plussat: The pickup and dropoff was super quick and simple. Gio made it painless to get my rental and the drop off was fairly quick.

Miinukset: The parking was so far up the lot. It took at least 10minutes to safely go around to the top floor.

Plussat: This location is a bit out of the way, but the cost of a weekend rental vs Manhattan costs is exceptional. The staff was courteous and efficient. The car was clean and reliable. I will use this Enterprise location again if needed.

Friendly and Easy pick-up

Plussat: The associates were very friendly and nice, helped me load up the rental car with all my stuff. Great value for money.

Miinukset: I really hated that I got two sets of keys and they were stuck together, so I always had this bulky ring with 2 keys and 2 fobs on it. They apparently need to have it like that so the keys are together if/when the car is sold, but it's incredibly inconvenient. What if I lost them? Which I didn't, but what if? Also the fact that I couldn't just put the keys in my pocket was very frustrating. Additionally, the car wasn't clean on the inside or outside, but that didn't bother me too much since I was driving out to the country, but I just thought I would mention it.

Plussat: This Enterprise location is great and easy. Brand new vehicle, and friendly service. It's a smaller location, so there's opportunity for free upgrades when vehicles are not in.

Good and Bad

Plussat: They had a wonderful young lady drive me to the metro after my rental. She was pleasant and professional. The car was ok.

Miinukset: I arrived later than expected and even though I had confirmed my reservation and they had given my car to someone else. The man at the desk was very dismissive of me. I found him quite rude. They then had to drive me 20min away to another location to pick up another vehicle. The car smelled so strong of air freshener that it made me nauseous.

Plussat: The car itself was fine, although it wasn’t super clean — it was dusty and had bird poop on it as we checked it out of the parking lot. So much so that we thought we may have someone’s personal vehicle by accident rather than a rental.

Miinukset: The difficult part about the pickup and drop-off was that the Avis desk was inside the mall and manned by a single customer service rep, who seemed overwhelmed and slow to process everyone lining up. Checkout took 40 mins and returning took an hour. The parking area was poorly marked and confusing.

Miinukset: Waited an hour in line for a car I booked for 10am. Didn’t get on the road until 11.30. Threw off my whole schedule and frankly ruined my day. To make matters worse, I had to wait in line again to drop off the keys. I wouldn’t expect this from a budget car rental, let alone Avis.

Miinukset: Switched faulty car for another car that also had issues. Avis refers back and forth but no proper compensation has been given. Its taken away quite some time to deal with it and its limited the ability to use a car which should not have been an issue when provided with a safe car.

This is a joke

Miinukset: I reserved a vehicle online, the reservation confirmed the vehicle was at the location I needed so I thought OK everything is going work out. I called the budget location that I was going to be picking the vehicle up from that’s were things took a turn. The guy could barely speak English the vehicle that I reserved was not there. And it was not going to be there for three or four days. I could get no clear answers. The guy basically said that he cannot help me even though had a reservation. Huh... great So I called Avis, quick easy everything worked out I would recommend renting from Avis if you are ever in New Jerse.

Miinukset: I was charge $25 in Boston for returning the car earlier ?!?!?!? I will be disputing this charge as soon as I'm back in Jersey City. I made reservation to pick up the car around 9:00 am and to return next day around 4:00 am and that exactly when I return the car. I was told that because reservation was made for a full day by the Budget office in Jersey City from 11:00 am(when I came to pick up the car) till 11:00am there is a fee for returning CAR EARLY - I have never experience to be charged because I return a car earlier. The funny thing is that I repeated 3 times in Jersey City office that I would be returning the car by 4:00 and don't need till 11:00 am and they repeated 3 times that this was just formality and I could return the car whenever I wish to.

Plussat: the staff at the pick up point were really helpful - there had been a mix up about pick up and drop off sites and they sorted it really quickly. the first car had a crack in the windscreen - which we pointed out before we took the car - and it was changed with no problem at all. We had to wait about 10 minutes whilst they got a replacement car ready for us. Great service and such friendly staff - we will be back again. They now need to release the deposit held on my credit card!

Miinukset: I turned up - no compact car like I'd reserved. Plenty of minivans there - they refused to give me one. I phoned customer service of Budget to see if they could help - the representative refused to help, said "I don't care", and ended the call. So - no car. Now I have to write to Budget to get my money back for the insurance I paid for the rental

Miinukset: I reserved a vehicle online, the reservation confirmed the vehicle was at the location I needed so I thought OK everything is going work out. I called the budget location that I was going to be picking the vehicle up from that’s were things took a turn. The guy could barely speak English the vehicle that I reserved was not there. And it was not going to be there for three or four days. I could get no clear answers. The guy basically said that he cannot help me even though had a reservation. Huh... great So I called Avis, quick easy everything worked out I would recommend renting from Avis if you are ever in New Jerse.

Miinukset: I was charge $25 in Boston for returning the car earlier ?!?!?!? I will be disputing this charge as soon as I'm back in Jersey City. I made reservation to pick up the car around 9:00 am and to return next day around 4:00 am and that exactly when I return the car. I was told that because reservation was made for a full day by the Budget office in Jersey City from 11:00 am(when I came to pick up the car) till 11:00am there is a fee for returning CAR EARLY - I have never experience to be charged because I return a car earlier. The funny thing is that I repeated 3 times in Jersey City office that I would be returning the car by 4:00 and don't need till 11:00 am and they repeated 3 times that this was just formality and I could return the car whenever I wish to.

No cars available - they refused to give me a bigg

Miinukset: I turned up - no compact car like I'd reserved. Plenty of minivans there - they refused to give me one. I phoned customer service of Budget to see if they could help - the representative refused to help, said "I don't care", and ended the call. So - no car. Now I have to write to Budget to get my money back for the insurance I paid for the rental

Plussat: Nothing. Hertz did not have an available car from me at the location my reservation time, even though I made AND PAID FOR the reservation in advance. The location not only ran out of cars hours before my reservation, but they did not think to even call me to tell me that they will not be able to honor my reservation. I had to commute almost two hours to reach the Hertz location. I only found out AFTER reaching the Hertz location that my reservation would not be honored. The location also refused to assist me with my dilemma. I am STILL actively trying to get my money back for a service they refused to provide.

Miinukset: Confirm the location will have a car when a reservation is made in advance. I made the reservation over a week in advance. There is NO REASON AT ALL for Hertz to not have a car ready for me when I arrived.

Plussat: Car in good condition. KIA SOUL.

Miinukset: Requested car drop off in Edison - which was rejected. I had to go all the way from Edison to Jersey City and come back by train to Edison. Very high insurance fees !!

Miinukset: The drop off is weird. You have to drop off the car 7 floors above where the office is, and there’s nobody to receive the car the there either. The office was also very hard to find the first time, with no obvious signs to Hertz office

Very horrible experience with Hertz rental

Miinukset: 1)I waited almost 40 minutes to get the car(one woman ahead of me)-causing me to be late 2)They didn't give me the ticket to get out of the garage so I held up other cars, as I had to get out of the car and track down a ticket 3) I have asthma and the car smelled of smoke(causing me to take an inhaler 3 times during the few days I had the car) 4)When I went to return the car, there was no instruction on drop off-just to go up a ramp in a huge garage with all sorts of Hertz rental return signs and NO instruction-finally I had to leave it downstairs in a handicapped spot as I had to catch a ferry This was an all around horrible experience. I have rented from Hertz many times and have never had such a horrible experience. Thanks

Plussat: Maureen was very efficient (and nice)! Check in was speedy but professional. She even gave me a quick run through of features/buttons on my car (as a NYer, I don't drive that often and having driven Hondas for most of my life, it took me a little while to figure out where everything was on my rental Chevy.)

Miinukset: This National is located in a hotel, and the check in/check out desk was a little hard to find. I ended up following signage up to the 8th floor parking deck at first. Luckily, I ran into Maureen on the way and she brought me back to the desk (down a hallway to the left of the lobby). Other issue was getting the car out of the deck. The deck is a paid parking deck that services the hotel as well, and apparently they don't have a system in place for handling the rental cars. When driving out, deck attendants told me I should have grabbed a ticket at the deck first, checked out my car, and THEN paid for parking on the way out?!? Made no sense, and I had to wait at the gate for 5 minutes while they verified my information.

One Way Rental

Plussat: The service was good and it was nice to have a larger vehicle although I would have preferred to have had the car the we reserved ready and waiting. We were upgraded because the car we'd reserved wasn't available at pick-up so it probably cost me more in gas than I would have liked. The agents on site were very professional and friendly.

Miinukset: I didn't dislike anything about this experience other than it would be really nice if locations in Manhattan offered one-way rentals. It's a pain in the neck to have to coordinate getting to Jersey City to be able to find this rental option. One way drop off charges seem high to me given that I can't imagine there is any issue with cars being rent-able on the other end or that enough cars don't show back up in the NYC area.
