Plussat: Bed was comfy, everything was very clean and very modern. Shower was very powerful . There is happy hour from 6-7 where you can get a free drink too.

Miinukset: Very minor things- No full size mirror. The door lock for the bathroom was very stiff to use.

Miinukset: Specifically asked for a quiet room away from the lift but was assigned a smaller room close to the lift. Room size on booking.com specifically states 32sqm but hotel seems to have limited supplies of rooms with this size and yet fails to make this correction on this site. So this is rather misleading. Complained straight away but the hotel and its manager failed to go beyond expectations unlike a lot of the more experienced and established hotel chain by upgrading their guests. Also insisted that the room that I was assigned initially was the correct category. Honestly, this is not the point, the point is the hotel should always take every opportunity to review the requirements of the guest before hand. And do their very best to assign the very best rooms available to the guest rather than wait for them to complain, then give them what they pay for. This is disappointing given the raving reviews on this site. Also I happen to be a short, youthful looking Chinese lady. So, I am terribly disappointed to experience this type of prejudice in a beautiful city like Reykjavik, who is heavily reliant on tourism. Even the pharmacy next door was quite rude. Having waited in line patiently, they chose to ignore me and served a taller Caucasian man. Unfortunately, this type of arrogance & ignorance seems to be more prevalent in a lot of the smaller European cities and economies.

Plussat: I liked the interior design, the goodies from the yule lads in the morning, the spa, the breakfast...the list goes on!

Plussat: We loved this hotel. Very classy and my husband said his Christmas Day meal was the best meal he has ever had (he is a very well travelled businessman). The staff were excellent and very polite and helpful. The breakfast was excellent as was the gym and pool . I would have liked to stay there for longer. We had 2 children with us and they catered for this with a children’s menu and and little gifts on Christmas Eve. Complimentary crisps, water and soft drinks in fridge. Excellent location.....in the middle of everything and close to bus stops for pickups for organised tours

Miinukset: Ei oikeastaan ollut itselleni ongelma, mutta jos olet herkkä melulle, niin kannattaa pyytää ikkunat sisäpihalle päin. Hyvä sijainti Laugavegurilla tiesi myös kadun äänien kuulumisen sisälle. Itseäni ei häirinnyt, mutta joku herkkäunisempi varmaan häiriintyy.

Plussat: The hotel was perfect for a couple. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. Perfect location to walk to everything we wanted to see or to get to the bus transfers. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice.

Miinukset: The only thing I would suggest is leaving directions for the coffee maker and the oven and stove. They were a little difficult to figure out.

Plussat: The location was great, on the central street. 5 minutes away from bus stop 14 and pick up for tours at the Rex Hostel - the main street is mostly pedestrianised so you do have to walk a little for pick ups. The bonus supermarket and Brauo bakery were a two minute walk away. The self-check in process was easy, 5 mins. We never really met any of the staff on reception. For check out you just leave your card in a box. The bean to cup coffee machine made excellent coffee, plenty of beans, sugar, herbal tea bags and milk in the fridge on arrival. The kitchen had everything we needed including a dishwasher. The bathroom was compact but clean and the shower was amazing. The Icelandic shampoo, shower gel and conditioner were lovely - I don't normally use hotel stuff but these smelt really nice. We were located on the back overlooking the courtyard on the first floor, we heard a little noise from outside and other rooms but it was not a problem. Good tv with lots of English options.

Miinukset: The bed was two twins pushed together which is sometimes fine but there was an annoying dent in the middle. This was also annoying because the duvet only just met the ends of the bed, it wasn't big enough to be comfortable for two people, especially when sleeping in the middle of the bed was uncomfortable. We booked the cheapest room but it could have done with a small table so you could eat together in the room. It had a bench at the end of the bed and two stools which would not be ideal if you wanted to eat a meal in the room. Other than that, fantastic stay.

Plussat: Fabulous. Great for our Iceland holiday.

Miinukset: We booked for 2 king beds for my wife and 2 kids (7, 11 year old). * Upon arrival we found our room to have limited standing room. Yes you read that right. The walls were angled so you couldn’t stand in the bathroom, next to the bed or at the dining table. At first it was the charming feature of an international stay, but quickly grew tiresome after multiple “head bonks” This was not clear at time of booking otherwise we would have made a different choice. * Also pushing 2 “twin size” beds together does not equal a true king size bed. * We asked for several recommendations each day for food and dining, only 1 person (“Fanney” who was amazing) was able to offer various recommendations and also find reservations for us. It really seemed like most of the staff which was different each day was very unfamiliar with the local places to eat and were solely reliant on google searches rather than local knowledge.

Plussat: Really modern and clean big rooms. Good bathroom. They also put milk in the fridge on arrival - great for hot drinks.

Miinukset: Draws in the besroom had emtpy bottles in so not cleaned out properly. Bedroom was on the smaller side but made up for by the space in the rest of the apartment.

Plussat: The location of the hotel is very good, very clean, the bathroom is very neat, the living room and kitchen facilities are very advanced. I like the furnishings and styles of the living room very much.

Plussat: Great location. Apartment was very clean and spacious. We had the 2 bedroom penthouse and it was perfect for our family of four. Up to date, modern and very well maintained. Staff promptly answered any questions before and during our visit. Highly recommend.

Plussat: Everything about this hotel is fabulous! From the location to the decor everything is thoughtful and inviting. It was such a great surprise to us the breakfast was served each day, it was made so well and I even got ideas for how I want to make breakfast at home!

Plussat: Aamiainen oli kerrassaan erinomainen. Hotelli on erityisen siisti ja kodikas ja se sijaitsee keskeisellä paikalla lähellä kauppoja ja muita palveluja. Hotellin läheisyydessä on useita laadukkaita ruokapaikkoja.

Plussat: Super hyvä aamiainen ! Ihan kaikille löytyy jotain niin kattava. Kodikas hotelli, missä mukava henkilökunta, todella siistit huoneet ja erittäin tilava kylpyhuone.

Miinukset: toisella puolella pientä sivukatua ja isomman alakadun kulmaa olevasta clubista kuului paljon kovaa musiikkia ja huuto/örinää kello 4 asti aamulla pe-la iltoina eli joittenkin huoneitten ikkunat olivat siihen suuuntaan. Mikäli saaat huoneen toiselta puolelta niin melu ongelmaa ei ole.

Plussat: breakfast was good ,location was good noisy on a Friday night with a club playing music till late.

Plussat: Very centrally located, comfy bed and excellent breakfast.

Miinukset: - i had asked for a quiet room, to which I got an answer saying they’d try but could not promise anything. In the end we got a room above a really busy road that was quite annoyingly noisy. So don’t go if you’re planning on having a restful stay. Might be really really noisy! - No parking (which we hadn’t anticipated and it cost us extra money: parking doesn’t come cheap in Reykjavík)

Plussat: The location of the hotel is fantastic; right in the heart of the city, next to the main shopping street. There is a parking building right across the street, which was very convenient for us since we had rented a car (it cost us approx. 20-25 euro per night but you should check the prices beforehand). The breakfast buffet was really nice - it included pancakes, and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice.

Miinukset: The standard rooms are really small; there's barely enough room between the foot of the bed and the wall to cross to the other side. Overall, not good value-for-money.

Miinukset: Well, due to location, friday and saturday nights are loud from bars next to hotels. Sleeping not that easy in each room.

Plussat: The hotel decor in this hotel is really well designed. The lobby, the lounge, the restaurant & the rooms were all super cool. We loved it! We stayed in a really great room. It had a living room with a pullout that our 2 year old slept on & a great big king in the bedroom. The bathroom had a really cool clawfoot tub & big shower. I loved the decor in our room! Blackout curtains were great as we were jet lagged & the sun doesn't go down in the Summer iceland. Breakfast was yummy & the coffee was excellent. Everything is VERY expensive in Iceland but this hotel was pricey even for Iceland. Luckily we had a free night from hotels.com do we only had to pay the taxes. I'm very impressed with Canopy by Hilton though & hope to stay in another one of their hotels.

Plussat: Everything. The atmosphere was very cosy and the location was perfect! I loved the hotels attention to detail. They offer records and a record player to borrow and use in your room, thought that was a nice touch.

Plussat: Excellent location in downtown. Attractions, shops & restaurants all in close proximity. Good amount of space in the Junior suite. 1 minute walk to the bus stop for excursion pick-ups.

Plussat: The room.was spacious and the bed huge. The facilities were fantastic. It was very comfortable. Lots of complimentary tea and coffee. Fresh towels every day. Great location a short walk from the town centre and even shorter walk to the amazing halgrimskjrka church. Pick up for excursions from outside the front door. The shower was exceptional

Miinukset: When we self checked in there were no key cards available so we had to call the hotel (while in the hotel) to get through to someone who wasnt in 'the office' at the time. Wait 5 minutes and then be given a code to open a key safe to get a spare key. The self check in would be great as long as there were key cards available. It was the same for another couple who arrived just after us.

Plussat: The lovely and cosy design , the confortable bedding and quiet location in the center of the city . Easy check-in process for late arrival , friendly staff! I strongly recommend !

Plussat: The room was excellent, all we needed to sleep, cook and relax! The bed was huge, the bathroom was so nice, with really nice toiletries and the kitchen had everything needed for those late night cups of tea and toast. Felt like home!

Miinukset: Nitpicking really but we used the privacy lock on the door and someone still came into our room when we weren’t there. They only left towels but some other guests could not like that!

Miinukset: Huone oli yöllä todella kuuma johon herättiin jokaisena yönä ilman selvää syytä tähän. Aamupala vaihteli - asiat loppuivat kesken. Esim. Vesimelonit loppuivat ja koskaan ei tullut lisää. Huoneen valaisin rikki, yksi naulakko puuttui ja kylpyhuoneen valaisimissa eri sävyiset lampit.

Harmi vain, että em. hlö oli saapuessamme, joten ensivaikutelma hotellin palvelusta oli huono. Huone oli näin talviaikaan liian pimeä, ei oikein nähnyt lukea.

Plussat: Excellent breakfast, though due to a local strike, it was not available on one morning of our stay.

Plussat: The hotel was lovely! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and spotlessly clean! There was a good variety of different breakfast options and this was complementary! Excellent location also.

Miinukset: Missed our flight with 7 yrs old, was charged for 1 night stay as was “too late to cancel “ and had “no insurance “. Would be nice if there was some «deviation” from the policy in this particular situation and in customer service for the whole Iceland. I felt like nobody fights here for their tourists. I guess a climate plays a role here .... Next time definitely would NOT stay here, as there other options

Plussat: Brilliant location on the main shopping street but with no intrusive noise. One of the most comfortable bed and pillows I have experienced for many years.

Miinukset: Reception staff concentrating on their mobile phones when not attending to guests doesn't look very professional.

Plussat: The beds were very comfortable and the rooms cosy and very clean. The location was excellent as was the surrounding area.

Miinukset: The bathrooms were a little cold compared to the rest of the room. Breakfast was good but there were no options to request anything else for example eggs or porridge. Also there was only full fat milk available which isn’t great when your lactose intolerant!

Miinukset: The food in the bar was only average& small portions. Duvets were tiny!

Plussat: The hotel was great. From the atmosphere and decorations to the people working there. The front desk staff were amazing and friendly. They were always ready to help and had a smile on there faces everyday. We got a family sized room for two people just because I heard the rooms might be smaller. However the room was bigger than I expected including the bathroom. You hear that the shower doors fold to make more room. However even extended there is enough room for the other person to use the sink or get ready. The hotel gives you a cell phone with data included, which was honestly amazing. I made the phone into a wifi hotspot and was able to use my own cell phone throughout the trip. Just bring portable charger with you as the phone battery dies quickly this way. The hotel is also located on the main strip and perfect walking distance from restaurants and bars. But a few blocks down so you don't hear the noise of the bars at night. We never tried the breakfast downstairs as we always had say trips planned in the mornings. There is a bakery down the street that is open early I can't remember the name of it but the front desk told us about it. Big enough to sit down and have breakfast, but gets packed as well so give yourself enough time if you have morning plans. The room does come with a pot to make your own hot tea and instant coffee if you are in a rush.

Miinukset: Hard to say what I did not like about the hotel. The only thing I can think of is that the room gets very warm and with no thermostat to control temperature. We opened the window everyday however it only opens a tiny crack and doesn't stay open on its own. Probably from the wind outside. Just bring light pajamas with you and you will be fine.

Plussat: Great hotel. Clean rooms, helpful staff, nice amenities, fabulous location. Stayed here with a few friends for our four day visit. The location is very central to great shopping, restaurants and bus stop for excursions, Highly recommend and will definitely return.

Plussat: We loved this hotel. Modern, totally clean, perfect location, and helpful staff who made great recommendations for tours. We booked the sea view, which wasn’t so much useful for the sea because we came and left in the dark, but was handy for northern lights lookout. We didn’t see any, but were glad we could check every so often without leaving our room.

Plussat: The location of the hotel was the best. So close to everything and really handy when catching a bus. It was clean, and the room was quiet and I slept well. The robes in the room were a nice touch as was the personal safe. The radiator kept the room nice and warm, and the comforters on the bed were nice. They give you a cell phone to use during your stay to make local phone calls and check the internet. The breakfast choices were good and the food tasted good. The items were regularly stocked and the fruit was fresh. Tables were cleared quickly. There was a bar and restaurant onsite (which I didn't visit), but it looked nice.

Miinukset: The rooms were extremely dark, even with all the lights on. I went in the winter so it was dark outside for the majority of the day. Coffee and tea service in the room was not always replenished daily. One morning, I overheard one of the servers at breakfast reprimand 3 guests at the next table for "wasting food". I was shocked she would say something like this. Apparently there was a sweet roll in the center of their table that they didn't eat, and she went on and on about not taking things that wouldn't be eaten. This was unacceptable in my opinion. The clerk at the check-in, Olga, was less than friendly and talked about other guests to the other clerk when I was within ear-shot. Then, when she was in the middle of helping me another time, she stopped helping me and started taking care of new guests. Not professional at all. Overall, the hotel was OK. A bit expensive I think. It would be nice to add a small refrigerator to the rooms for the guests.

Plussat: Nice hotel in great part of town.

Plussat: Very comfotable room with a great shower. Fabulous location with lots of places to eat, shop and see minutes away. Friendly and helpful staff at reception plus a great gym, sauna and plunge pool. No complaints at all.

Miinukset: Menu in onsite restaurant slightly limited but the bar lwas very welcoming and friendly.

Plussat: Somehow this isn't mentioned on their website or any reviews I've seen, but Hotel Alda gives each guest an android smartphone in lieu of a room phone. This phone works throughout Iceland, has reception on speed dial, and has all the other bells and whistles you'd expect of s smartphone: maps, activity guides, etc. A great and welcome surprise!

Miinukset: Unfortunately for the hotel, but fortunately for Reykjavik generally, there is a bit of construction going on near the facilities. Not a big deal if you're getting up early to go on an adventure, but if you intend to sleep in do ask for a room on the other side of the hotel. This advice should be good through the end of summer 2015.

Plussat: The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good and a great selection. The location was fantastic and close to most things in the city centre.

Plussat: Quiet but central location & bus stop 13 right outside - great for tour pickups and airport transfers.

Plussat: Buffet breakfast was delicious and staff were very friendly. Rooms were clean modern and comfortable and the location was perfect, just a 15 minute walk from the centre.

Miinukset: It smelled like someone had thrown up in the hallway. I believe the cleaning staff tried to clean it up as best they could but the smell lingered.

Plussat: Great location, great facilities, staff very friendly.

Miinukset: The room smelt a little musty.

Plussat: The room on 4th floor was in a quiet corner. It was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Included breakfast buffet was fine - had all the items that most people would have for breakfast, and plenty of them. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The best part was the location for those going on day tours. The tour bus stop #13 is right in front of the hotel, and I was able to wait for the busses in the comfort of a warm lobby with large glass windows.

Miinukset: The bathroom could use a few shelves for the toiletries. The shower pressure could be stronger. I didn't sign up for the spa package (that included the use of the hot tub), so a strong, hot shower in the room would have been nice for the cold wintry days during my stay.

Plussat: Was so stress free relaxed and clean environment room was everything could ask for and staff were great

Plussat: Tourist bus stop right outside the door. Breakfast had something for everyone and was fab and the staff were so friendly and accommodating.

Miinukset: You had to pay to use the gym. The wardrobe space was very limited and the bathroom door was modern glass and fitted more like a shower screen

Plussat: Rauhallinen hotelli hyvällä sijainnilla

Plussat: Hotelli sijaitsi rauhallisella kadulla, lyhyen kävelymatkan päässä kaikesta. Huoneet ja yleiset tilat yksinkertaisen tyylikkäät. Saimme huoneen ylimmästä kerroksesta, josta pääsi yhteiselle hotellia kiertävälle parvekkeelle. Hotellin aamiainen oli monipuolinen ja tarjolla oli myös gluteenitonta leipää.

Miinukset: Hotellihuone oli aika pimeä tummien pintojen ja pienten valojen takia. Meille osui lämmin heinäkuinen viikko, joten huoneessa oli kuuma eikä pienestä tuulettimesta ollut paljoa apua. En olisi uskonut kaipaavani ilmastointia Islannissa. :)

Plussat: clean, modern, good breakfast, location excellent, quiet area, free parking in a garage was excellent.

Plussat: The hotel is in a great location, the breakfast was really good. The room is great for the price. I would recommend this hotel and we had a great stay.

Miinukset: The main reason I have not given it a 10 was due to the fact that the floor was dirty, it must be difficult to keep a wooden bedroom floor clean but then it wasn’t fixed when the room was cleaned. There are was no safe in the room which meant we had to carry around out important document around with us.

Plussat: Sijainti hyvä ja kiva että auton saa parkkihalliin ilmaiseksi kuivaan paikkaan. Aamiainen erittäin hyvä ja sieltä löytyy kaikki tarvittava. Henkilökunta hyvin ystävällisiä ja avuliaita. Huoneessa olevat kaakaot maistuivat sateisen päivän jälkeen. :) Suosittelen!

Miinukset: Jos palaat autolla kovin myöhään hotellille, ei vapaita paikkoja parkkihallissa luultavasti ole ja parkkipaikkaa saattaa joutua etsimään tovin lähiympäristöstä.

Plussat: Stayed at Skuggi Hotel for 5 nights over Christmas and had the perfect stay. Room was spacious and warm, shower was really good and the beds were one of the best I’ve slept in a hotel, so comfortable. The room temperature was spot on and we did not have to turn the heating on. Breakfast was plentiful and some really nice and fresh breads and pastries which is exactly what I like for breakfast. Hotel location was perfect too, 1 minute from bus stop 9 for airport transfer as well as pick up and drop off for tours. Main shopping street was also less than couple of minutes walking with lots of shops and restaurants options. Very pleasant stay, would definitely return and recommend to friends.

Plussat: The hotel is centrally located in Reykjavik and next door to some excellent restaurants. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.

Miinukset: For some reason the TV was messed up most of the time (would get frozen on certain channels and would have to get up and turn it off). However, was not in the room much, so this was not a big issue.

Plussat: The location was very nice and central.

Miinukset: The hotel staff were rude and not helpful. One night there was so much noise from people talking and partying until 3:00 am. Could not sleep. The buses no linger pick you up at the hotel. It the walk to the bus stop is less than five minutes. It was still inconvenient with all our luggage. We did not know that when booking.

Plussat: Breakfast excellent with great service. All the staff very helpful, friend l’u. Restaurant/bar is nice!

Miinukset: It got a bit hot in the room at night, but it was a minor issue.
